Pathophysiology, comorbidities, and anaesthesia implications of concurrent disease
DA candidates should be able to identify and manage patients presenting to theatre with co- morbid diseases and understand the changes in physiology due to concurrent diseases. In the DA scope of practice, patient comorbidities are grouped into two categories: 1. Category 1: The Diplomate should be able to diagnose, optimize, and anaesthetise patients with these co-morbidities. 2. Category 2: The Diplomate should be able to diagnose and refer patients with these co-morbidities, to be anaesthetised by a specialist.
